The Senior Prom Concert

The Secretariat for Culture and Sport organizes in the middle of May, on occasion of the end of the school year, the Senior Prom Concert – a musical happening dedicated to graduating students of all the secondary schools in Podgorica. The happening is renown for its quality performers who also enjoy great popularity among teenagers and the younger audience, as well as for amateur performers, who are still mainly unknown and striving on the road to success.

"Van Gogh", "Piva jazz", Igor Lazić, "The books of knjige", "Negative", Rambo Amadeus, "Autogeni trening" , "Neverne bebe" ... are merely some of the names of famous artist and bands who have performed on occasion of this concert.

The Best Students' Day

Although education falls under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education and Science, aiming at stimulating and giving support and recognition to the best students, The City of Podgorica - more exactly the Secretariat for Culture and Sport – organizes, at the beginning of June, the event »The Best Students' Day«. On that occasion, awards are handed over to the best primary and high-school pupils of Podgorica, as well as to the pupils who have been presented with the diploma »Luča«, to the final year students who have won a State competition, or came second or third, and to the best students of their generation. The Secretariat also arranges for an appropriate programme to solemnize the occasion. The best secondary school students are also presented with awards in money, which are granted to them by the City of Podgorica.

Podgorica Cultural Summer

Podgorica Cultural Summer, has been, for more than one decade, held under the patronage of the City of Podgorica, Secretariat for Culture and Sport, assisted in carrying out this task by the City's institutions of culture. It has, with its energy and achievements, supported the argument that the Capital is highly cultural active city, and with no diminishing in the artistic intensity of its cultural life. On occasion of the formal selection of the Programme of activities, the Programme Council en-devours to maintain its multimedial character, to revitalize the open spaces, which become attractive stages to perform on, as well as to make sure that the participants to this event are not just artists from Montenegro, but also artists of high international relevance.

The executive producer of this event is the Cultural and Informative Centre "Budo Tomović".

F I A T -

Festival of International Alternative Theatre

After a five year long recess, FIAT has returned on the cultural stage of the Montenegrin capital, thanks to the financial support of the City of Podgorica. This cultural event, which is renowned for its modern theatrical expression, is held in September. During several days of activities, FIAT animates the city with original performances, making it thus possible for its audience to view and appreciate the latest theatrical trends coming from Europe.

FIAT plays host to some of the most significant names in the theatrical field, both national and international. The experiments conducted by FIAT on multiple stages around the country result in promoting Montenegro as a homogeneous cultural environment.
Many generations of alternative theatrical concept lovers will remember the mid seventies by the DODEST' s first steps, the eighties by the FJAT's and the nineties by the FIAT's performances. During 30 years of activities of  DODEST, FJAT and FIAT, there's been a conspicuous evolution of the Montenegrin experimental theatrical performance. A group of young people, enthusiasts, students eager to change the world, at first through the activity of the former Students' Experimental Scene as part the Academic Student Artistic Society »Mirko Srzentic«, and, later, under the name »DODEST« within the Young People’s Recreation Centre »Budo Tomović«,  iniciated its spiritual mission, making it slowly grow into not only a completely different mode of theatrical expression, but a whole new movement, which would majorly reflect on our contemporary culture. Under the support of DODEST, generations of actors, directors, journalists of impeccable reputation were brought to light.

From the very beginning, FJAT and later FIAT as well, possessed a clear programme orientation which lined them up among the few renown festivals of ex Yugoslavia. What greatly contributed to it was a certain atmosphere of the Festival, which wasn't strictly theatrical. FIAT had the power to transport the city into some diverse irrational dimension with its theatrical ideas, experiments and playfulness. The streets, the squares, the forgotten spaces and buildings, the people casually passing by and the puzzled audience became part of one unusual theatrical experience. With the FIAT's, the first real international activity of the DODEST stage also began. Distinguished groups of alternative artists from Europe and all over the world started coming to Podgorica and Montenegrin plays were enacted on many international theatrical festivals.

The years of FIAT's activity have been marked by the accomplishments of so many persons: directors, playwrights, actors, scenographers, costume designers, composers, producers, organizers and journalists. Every single one of them has contributed to FIAT's reputation and to the fact that, due to the originality of its performances, para theatrical occurrences, nonverbal communication and its capability of livening up the entire city, FIAT has not been regarded as a phenomenon that needs explanation, but as something that you simply experience.

The Children Music Festival “Naša radost”(Our Joy)

The Children Music Festival “Naša radost”, which is traditionally held in Autumn, has existed for nearly 3 decades (the first one was held in 1980).

The Association for Chidren, which carries out its duties exclusively within the sphere of culture for children, is the one responsible for hosting this festival. The Festival is of international character.
The Programme contains a competition for children under 13 years of age and a revival segment for solo singers, previously granted with awards on either national or international festivals. The solo performers put across their songs live and accompanied by the choir “Zvjezdice”(Little stars). The Quality Jury, which consists of writers, music professors, composers and vocal soloists, presents awards and recognition to the best composition, arrangement, text, stage performance and three awards for best interpretation. There is also a Jury of Children which is presented with the task of selecting the best composition.
Some additional programme activities are carried out during the Festival, like exhibitions of themed fine-art works, performances of some of the previous year's participants, the organizing and conducting of debates.

A great deal of the compositions that have been performed at this Festival is considered to be of  long-lasting value to the future song-writers and performers of music for children.

The Festival is traditionally held in the Cultural and Informative Centre "Budo Tomović". For further information you may contact the web address: www.djecjisavez.me.

DEUS- December Art Scene

From its beginning, known as  December Days of Culture, and afterwards - December Art Scene – DEUS (from 2004 onwards), this manifestation moved forward and evolved together with the City, the artists participating in it, their creative work and its audience.

Through careful creation of the cultural profile out of the best elements – the original spiritual values on one side and progressive ideas on the other, the vast cultural differences and the international experiences - the December Art Scene – DEUS secured its position as one of the most significant events in the field of culture in Podgorica.

In regards to that, the accent was not on DEUS as a cultural spectacle, but on achieving a higher spiritual, aesthetic and cultural standard in general by nurturing its best conceptual, visual and ceremonial elements. December Art Scene – DEUS is organized and produced by the Secretariat for Culture and Sport and the local cultural institutions. Nevertheless, great contribution is given to its setting up by the national cultural institutions, the foreign cultural centres and distinguished individuals, both native and foreign.

The Programme consists of contents from various fields: theatre, music, fine arts, literature and film, and the events’ schedule is defined by the DEUS's Council for Programme Activities.

The executive producer of this manifestation is the Cultural and Informative Centre "Budo Tomović".

Depending on their content and concept, the programed activities are usually carried out in the facilities of the Cultural and Informative Centre "Budo Tomović", the Public Institution Museums and Galleries of Podgorica, the Public Institution City Theatre, the Public Institution Peoples' Library "Radosav Ljumović", the Cultural and Informative Centre "Malesija" and the Cultural and Informative Centre "Zeta", as well as on city squares and inside the various national cultural institutions.

December Art Scene – DEUS is, beside its quality programs, well-known for the very advertising material of attractive design. Posters, billboards, catalogues, invitations and flyers are prepared by our famous painters and graphic artists.
